Tackling undeclared work in the Western Balkans through structured regional cooperation

A Workshop devoted to informal economy and undeclared work in the Western Balkans (WB) discussing potentials of structured regional cooperation approach to tackling the issues will take place in Sarajevo on 15 October 2019. It is organized by the Regional Cooperation Council’s (RCC) Employment and Social Affairs Platform (ESAP) and will gather the region’s policy-makers, social partners, experts and other actors from the region and beyond.

Informal economy and undeclared work in the WB constitute major barriers to enabling inclusive economic prosperity. ESAP has recently produced diagnostic reports for each Western Balkan economy that look at drivers of undeclared work, the institutional framework and current policy approaches. Building on current efforts to reduce the informal economy and particularly undeclared work, the reports propose key recommendations on building a holistic strategic approach to tackling informality.
