HELSINKI – Regional cooperation will be the main topic of the informal meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of EU member states and Western Balkan partners in Helsinki.

Informal meeting with the ministers of foreign affairs of the Western Balkans is scheduled for Friday, August 30 and it will be organised as the working session on regional cooperation.

After the meeting, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland Pekka Haavisto will have a joint press conference.

The day before, on Thursday, August 29, the foreign ministers of EU member states will discuss topical international issues such as the situation in wider Middle East, Europe and the Arctic as well as hybrid threats.

The informal meeting referred to as the ‘Gymnich’ is a regular gathering of the EU foreign affairs ministers, organised by the Presidency of the Council of the EU on a semi-annual basis. The meetings are chaired by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and they feature strategic discussions on the goals and instruments of EU foreign and security policy.
