Description | The project ‘’Ecosystem Services Assessment and Valuation (ESAV) in Future Course of Action in South-East Europe (SEE)’’ is designed to support cross-sectoral approach enabling recognition, demonstration and capture the value of biodiversity and ecosystem services for development planning in SEE. It aims to work together with key players across various sectors to develop regional recommendations and mechanisms. Assuring strategic and operational partnerships through cooperation concepts and agreements with global and regional related initiatives, including GIZ Global Project ValuES, IUCN ECARO, WWF Adria and others, it is intent to leverage real changes in the policies and decisions impacting the way ecosystems and their services are perceived, managed and used. Project will share its findings to increase public (and political) awareness on biodiversity and its valuation thereby contributing to overall regional inclusive and sustainable development and prosperity. Specific activities in three components are envisaged: Component 1: Establishment of sustainable and inter-sectoral cooperation mechanism on regional level Component 2: Capacity development measures on ESAV aims at enhancing capacities of institutions, organisations and individuals in the SEE region to apply the best applicable tools and methodologies for ESAV Component 3: Assessment, case studies and sensibilization aims at applying selected ESAV methodology and to carry out assessment, economic valuation and case studies in two priority sectors (i.e. forestry, agriculture, tourism, etc.) and pilot countries in order to generate concrete data and information Results expected: • Stakeholders across SEE region gain technical knowledge on ESAV useful for their work • SEE regional ESAV cooperation mechanism utilized on countries cross-sectoral level • Case studies and exemplary data regarding ESAV in two sectors in SEE are available Implementing partners: Environmental ministries and agencies (Regional Environmental Working Group (REWG) and associated Biodiversity Ecosystem Services Task Force (BDESS TF) |
