Council of the European Union

Council of the European Union adopted conclusions on the EU's enlargement policy and the EU-Western Balkans stabilisation and association process on 26 June 2018.

One of Council conclusions regarding Security threats:

·       Terrorism, radicalisation and organised crime continue to pose a security threat to the EU and to the whole region. In line with earlier European Council and Council conclusions, the Council recalls the importance of the external dimension of the EU's counter-terrorism work and of further strengthening cooperation on counter-terrorism with Turkey and the Western Balkans, in particular regarding the fight against foreign terrorist fighters and the financing of terrorism, the prevention and the countering of radicalisation, reinforced border checks and illegal trafficking of firearms and light weapons. Further efforts and a solid track record are also needed in the fight against organised crime. Recalling the EU's support, notably through the Integrative Internal Security Governance (IISG), the Council continues to call on partners to step up and enforce legal and operational measures in all these areas.
