Regional Cooperation in Disaster Financial Risk Sharing – RCC Side Event In the margins of the 2025 Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the UNECE Region

02 April 2025 Geneva, Switzerland

In the margins of the 2025 Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the UNECE Region, the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) in collaboration with Greece, Romania, and Turkiye is to host a side event on “Regional Cooperation in Disaster Financial Risk Sharing in the Context of the SEE2030 Strategy”, on 2 April 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The event will bring together policymakers, financial sector representatives, and disaster risk management experts to discuss regional efforts to close the disaster insurance protection gap in South East Europe (SEE).

The session will highlight the role of public-private partnerships, regulatory frameworks, and innovative financial mechanisms in ensuring accessible and affordable disaster insurance. Speakers from the World Bank, European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), and national regulatory authorities and private sector representatives will share insights on best practices and collaborative approaches. The discussion will emphasize how financial risk-sharing contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in reducing poverty, enhancing resilience, and strengthening economic stability.

The event aims to foster knowledge exchange, support regional policy development, and advance socioeconomic resilience in SEE through financial preparedness for natural disasters.
