The Forum is being organised under the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans

Tirana - The Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) is inviting you to the first Local Self-Governments Forum on 12 October in the Pyramid of Tirana. The Forum: Unlocking the Future: Innovate, Eco-vate, Elevate - Western Balkans Unite for Smart Cities, is being organised by the RCC, together with the Municipality of Tirana and the Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South East Europe (NALAS), and is part of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans (GAWB). 

Opening remarks will be delivered by Majlinda Bregu, RCC Secretary General, Arbjan Mazniku, Minister for Local Government of Albania, Luigi Soreca, EU Ambassador to Albania, Mehmet Ergün Turan, President of NALAS and Mayor of Fatih, Istanbul, and Mathieu Mori, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. In continuation, the participants will have an opportunity to be part of the panel dedicated to green transformation of cities across the Western Balkans with Erion Veliaj, Mayor of Tirana, Danela Arsovska, Mayor of Skopje, Përparim Rama, Mayor of Pristina, Samir Avdic, Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo, and Luka Rakcevic, Deputy Mayor of Podgorica. 

The Forum will mark the beginning of a structured regional dialogue between Local Self-Governments from the Western Balkans, aiming to charge the implementation of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans at the local level. Together, they will share best practices, facilitate peer-to-peer learning, and fortify our commitment to the green transition sweeping through the Western Balkans. The event takes place on the margins of the Berlin Process Summit set for Monday, 16 October in Tirana, and emphasises the vital role local governments play in our shared mission to achieve climate neutrality, as outlined in the GAWB.
