RCC-organized workshop on air transport in South East Europe to take place in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO – A workshop on importance of air transport for the economic and social development of South East Europe will open in Sarajevo tomorrow, 11 February, under the auspices of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Secretariat.
The event will assess the present and possible future contribution of air transport services to a regional infrastructure connectivity network and its potential in advancing economic and social development and cooperation in South East Europe (SEE). It will explore ways of increasing the number of regional air lines in order to strengthen mutual links and mobility as important prerequisites for the overall development.
The issues to be addressed by the participants will include insufficiently developed air transport market in the region, the criteria necessary for improved connections between the cities in SEE, the consumers’ needs for more convenient travel choices, and creation of business opportunities for companies supplying goods and services to airliners.
The workshop will be opened by Hido Biščević, RCC Secretary General, and Goran Filipovic, Task Manager for transport sector, EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Speakers will include Ulrich Schulte-Strathaus, Secretary General of the Association of the European Airlines (AEA); Máté Gergely, European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy and Transport; Ivan Mišetić, CEO Croatia Airlines; Carine Donzel, Direction of Air Transport, Directorate General of Civil Aviation of France, and others.
The event will bring together representatives of national transport ministries and aeronautical authorities, chambers of commerce, airliners, airports, business associations and other relevant stakeholders from the RCC members from SEE.
Journalists are invited to attend the opening of the workshop on Thursday, 11 February 2010, at 10.30 a.m., at the premises of the RCC Secretariat, Trg BiH 1/V, 71000 Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
