The annual Western Balkans Digital Summit was launched in April 2018 and continued through the next 6 years while travelling across the Western Balkans.

The summit aimed to enhance collaboration and innovation in the digital sphere among the Western Balkan economies, bringing together industry leaders, political decision-makers, entrepreneurs, and technology enthusiasts, through informative discussions and panel and networking sessions. It served as a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices with the goal of fostering digital transformation and economic growth in the Western Balkans.

First Western Balkans Digital Summit (WBDS) held in Skopje in 2018 indicated the beginning of Digital Integration era of the Western Balkans bringing the spotlight to the importance of regional cooperation and collaboration for the digitalisation of the Western Balkans.

The Belgrade-hosted second edition of WBDS in 2019 was marked by the signing of Roaming Free Western Balkans agreement setting the start of roaming prices reduction leading to 0 roaming costs in 2021.

Third WBDS hosted in Tirana in 2020 highlighted the achievements of the region’s Digital Agenda, focusing on 5G network and interoperability of data and services and exploring the possibilities for building partnerships with the private sector for digital transformation process.

Held in Podgorica in 2021 the fourth WBDS celebrated the first months after the start of roaming free regime in the Western Balkans and brought emphasis to the importance of continuing digitalisation of the region.

WBDS hosted in Pristina in 2022 highlighted the significance of an setting up of intergeneration approach to region’s digitalisation path while nurturing the priorities of the Western Balkan youth.

The sixth and final WBDS held in 2023 in Sarajevo celebrated the successful start of EU-Western Balkans roaming reductions while reminiscing at the results the power of regional cooperation had on digitalisation over the past six years through the organisation of the Summit.

Western Balkans Digital Summits have been supported and co-organised by the RCC since its inception to its finalisation.
