The SEE Regional Network on Disaster Risk Insurance and Risk Sharing, established at the 55th meeting of the RCC Board held on 12 March 2025 in Sarajevo, is a regional platform aimed at strengthening cooperation among insurance sector regulatory authorities and insurance and reinsurance sector associations of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Participants. Established under the SEE2030 Strategy, the Network promotes knowledge exchange, best practices, and enhanced disaster resilience.
Objectives and Activities
The Network facilitates discussions on expanding regional cooperation, information sharing, and improving disaster risk insurance schemes and financial risk-sharing mechanisms.
Key focus areas include:
- Organizing workshops and training for regulatory authorities and insurance associations on disaster insurance policies and post-disaster cost calculations.
- Promoting research on risk transfer, financial risk-sharing mechanisms, and disaster-related financial protection.
- Enhancing data collection and standardization in line with EU and international standards, with support from relevant EU institutions and international partners.
- Strengthening partnerships with insurance and reinsurance associations to improve financial protection against disasters.
- Contributing to SEE2030 Strategy reports and policy recommendations.
The RCC facilitates regular meetings of the Network, ensuring collaboration with EU institutions, international organizations, and financial sector experts to enhance regional disaster preparedness and response.
