The Action Plan for the implementation of the Sofia Declaration on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans (GAWB) covers the period from 2021 to 2030 and aligns the vision and goals of Western Balkans Six (WB6) with the European Green Deal’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. This document outlines a series of targeted measures across five key pillars, and seven roadmaps providing strategic orientation and guidelines on implementation for the WB6.
Importantly, the Action Plan is designed to be periodically revised according to the needs and new priorities of the WB6, without decreasing the level of ambitions. In this regard, following the commitments under the GAWB Action Plan and the Hamburg Declaration endorsed by the WB6 at the first Ministerial Meeting on the GAWB, the first revision of the Action Plan has been initiated through the Regional Working Group on the GAWB (RWG GAWB), in collaboration with the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and regional partner organisations.
The revision process will combine a top-down and bottom-up approach through the political guidance from WB6 and inputs from regional partners, CSOs, and other stakeholders, building upon lessons learnt from the implementation of the Action Plan.
Within this framework, the Regional Cooperation Council is publishing a call to gather inputs and comments contributing to the revision of the GAWB Action Plan. Through this call, we invite all interested CSOs dealing with GAWB-related topics to provide their feedback and proposals regarding the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Sofia Declaration, more specifically:
- Concrete regional actions/proposals: The list of GAWB actions categorised into five pillars mirroring the structure of the GAWB: 1) Decarbonisation, 2) Circular Economy, 3) Depollution, 4) Sustainable Agriculture, and 5) Protection of Nature and Biodiversity.
- The list of qualitative and quantitative indicators that constitute the monitoring system of the progress of GAWB implementation, divided into seven roadmaps provided in the Action Plan, namely: 1) Climate Action, 2) Energy, 3) Transport, 4) Circular Economy, 5) Depollution, 6) Sustainable Agriculture, 7) Nature and Biodiversity Protection.
